A very well known brand in the broadcast industry currently has an excellent permanent opportunity for a Lead Engineer to join its Hosting and Ops team based in London. The role will take responsibility for the support team, which covers the development, implementation and management of key systems, providing hosting and cloud infrastructure services to the business.
As Lead Engineer you will take ownership of the hosting platforms, which include onprem, cloud and colo, and will continuously review existing platform performance to ensure optimal performance. You will actively promote team knowledge sharing, whilst acting as a technical escalation point for the team and leveraging available resources to ensure the highest levels of service are provided. You will also work closely with vendors and suppliers to assess available and future technologies and help to develop the technology roadmap, focused on possible performance and efficiency improvements.
The Lead Engineer will also supervise the Hosting and Ops Engineering team, taking responsibility for conducting performance reviews, shift management and promoting skill development.
Applicants should have demonstrable technical experience with cloud technologies, including a strong knowledge of AWS, the installation, configuration and administration of Linux, VMWare and Apache/NGINX web servers, code deployment using Jenkins, Chef and Gitlab and scripting skills (Ansible and Shell scripting ideally). Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networks, DNS, routers, firewalls and load balancers is also essential, along with experience of monitoring tools such as Cacti and Nagios.
Additional experience in any of the following would also be beneficial; MySQL administration, Sparc/Solaris operating systems administration, Nagios administration and SoftNAS/Varnish.
Although previous team leadership / management experience is not essential, any previous supervisory / leadership experience would be highly advantageous, including experience conducting performance reviews, yearly appraisals and escalation management.
